Due to the vacancy of a specialized English radiology magazine in the country, the core of the Iranian Journal of Radiology was initiated and proposed by Dr. Karim Vesal in 1981 at the Medical Imaging Center of Imam Khomeini Hospital and under the management of Dr. Ghanaati. It was formed and in the same year, permission to publish it was obtained from the Ministry of Guidance.
The first issue of the journal was published under the supervision and scientific guidance of Dr. Vesal in 1982, and after two issues, it succeeded in obtaining a scientific research rank from the Publications Commission of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
In the formation of the academic staff and the jury of the journal, from the beginning, an approach based on cross-sectoral cooperation was adopted. Therefore, although most of the reviewers of the journal were selected more than the faculty of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, but tried to use the scientific collaborations of professors from universities across Iran in the journal. Also, the cooperation of prominent professors of American and European universities in the form of a jury of the magazine has been considered from the beginning.
The main purpose of the Journal of Scientific Nuclear Formation was to publish scientific research at the regional level in order to reflect indigenous problems around the world, which may not have received much attention in Western scientific texts. From the beginning, the journal has been published as a quarterly with a total of 20 research articles and 16 non-research articles (including review articles, review articles and video reviews) and attempts have been made to add various other sections to the journal to add to its appeal. In order to establish a journal office, a suitable physical space is considered in the imaging center of Imam Khomeini Hospital, and the cooperation of epidemiology professors is used in completing the jury.
